304L contains max 0.03% carbon (vs 0.08% in 304), eliminating carbide precipitation during welding. 316L adds 2-3% molybdenum for superior chloride resistance.
Selection guide:
- 304/304L: General corrosion, food processing, chemical containers
- 316/316L: Coastal/marine, chloride environments, pharmaceutical
Both grades offer excellent corrosion resistance; 316L costs 15-20% more due to molybdenum content.
Common finishes:
(1) Bright Annealed (BA) - Mirror-like, no scale, ideal for medical/food
(2) Pickled - Matte gray, removes scale, standard industrial finish
(3) Polished - #1 to #8 grit, decorative and sanitary applications
(4) Passivated - Enhanced corrosion resistance, removes free iron
Surface selection depends on application requirements and aesthetic needs.
Our seamless pipes use the Mannesmann plug mill process:
(1) Piercing: Rotary piercer creates hollow shell
(2) Elongation: Plug mill reduces wall thickness
(3) Sizing: Final dimension control
(4) Heat treatment: Solution annealing for optimal properties
Benefits: No weld seam (weak point), uniform wall thickness, excellent for high-pressure applications.
Comprehensive testing included:
- Mill Test Certificates (MTC) per EN 10204 3.1
- Chemical composition analysis
- Mechanical testing (tensile, yield, elongation)
- Hydrostatic test or PMI verification
- Intergranular corrosion test (ASTM A262)
- Dimensional inspection
Products meet ASTM A312, A269, EN 10216-5. Third-party inspection (SGS, BV) available.
